The General Authority of Hospitals and Educational Institutes launched the first program for advanced care for stroke patients ASLS under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the Authority, in cooperation with the American Heart Association, on Friday, December 20, 2024, at a Cairo hotel, in the presence of Dr. Sherif Wadia, Advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Critical Care and Emergency, Dr. Hazem Khamis, President of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization, Dr. Rami Khattar, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa for the American Heart Association, Dr. Sherif Safwat, Vice President of the Authority for Technical Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hadi, Dean of the National Heart Institute, Dr. Ahmed Farghaly, Director of Teaching Hospitals at the Authority, Dr. Ahmed Haiba, Director of the Authority’s Training Center, Dr. Muhammad Al-Muzain, Deputy Regional Director of the American Heart Association, and an elite group of professors and specialists in the field of heart, brain, and nerve care from inside and outside the organization.
Dr. stated. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, said that this program is being offered for the first time inside Egypt and in cooperation with the American Heart Association, and through the Authority’s training center, because this critical specialty is of great importance in saving the lives of patients, indicating that emergency medicine is of great importance. Maximum within the authority’s units, because the strength of a unit is measured by the strength and commitment of the emergency department to it, so we always strive to train medical staff on the latest methods and treatment protocols to provide advanced medical service that keeps pace with global development in this field, through various training programs that We are keen to cooperate with specialized international bodies such as the American Heart Association, with whom we previously cooperated through the Basic Care Programs (BLS) and the Advanced Care Program (ABLS). This comes within the framework of the Authority’s research and training role, which enables us to provide medical service alongside research and training. In light of the continued support of the Minister of Health and Population for the Authority and his constant keenness to support the Authority’s medical teams in the field of scientific research and publishing in international periodicals.
The Chairman of the Authority confirmed that the Authority’s stroke treatment units are located at the Matareya Teaching Hospital. Shebin El-Kom Teaching Hospital is full of distinguished cadres and expertise, and seeks to transfer these experiences to benefit from them within the rest of the Authority’s units. It writes daily epics in saving the lives of patients who are destined to survive at their own hands, and these are emergency cases that are treated free of charge. Therefore, the launch of this program represents a new stage in preparing new generations. Able to serve patients.
In his speech, Dr. praised. Sherif Wadih, Advisor to the Minister of Health for Critical Care and Emergency, said that the Authority’s pioneering role in training and continuing medical education is that the Authority’s choice to launch this program is a successful step and consistent with the state’s efforts in this field, and that one in every 4 people is at risk of suffering a stroke, according to statistics, and within a year. In 2023, 18,500 cases were recorded in Egypt, and the state took many steps to confront these cases, through awareness programs and increasing stroke units within the Ministry of Health hospitals, so the launch of this program is an important step in saving patients’ lives through Awareness and training for medical teams of various specialties, pointing out the importance of community awareness to change the citizen’s lifestyle because it is the first step to living in good health. He concluded his speech by conveying the greetings of His Excellency the Minister of Health and Population to those in charge of the program.

Rami Khattar, Regional Director of the American Heart Association, said that stroke is one of the most common diseases according to global statistics, and that a person suffers a stroke every 40 seconds globally, and a death is recorded every 3 minutes due to this serious problem, which is considered an increasing burden in the Middle East and Africa region. Due to factors such as changing lifestyle and high rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, the program that we are launching today in cooperation with the Hospitals and Educational Institutes Authority is a decisive step in this direction, and aims to provide medical personnel With the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with such cases.
Dr. added. Hani Al Shahidi, head of the program and regional representative of the American Heart Association in the Middle East and Africa, said that life support programs were provided through the Authority’s training center, as it was accredited by the American Heart Association as an accredited center to provide these programs and grant accredited certificates to those who obtained them. The center does not only train medical teams. Rather, many different entities and sports federations were trained within the center, and organizing the advanced care program for stroke patients comes as a certificate of excellence for the center for what it has provided during the past period, and a tribute to the training cadres within the General Hospital Authority. And educational institutes, which are equivalent to their counterparts in international training bodies.
