Target Australia wows with $70 ‘dupe’ of popular designer item: ‘It looks better than the $500 version’
Shoppers reluctant to fork out hundreds of dollars on designer dresses have discovered what they believe to be an affordable alternative at Target.
One mum couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted a stunning pink ruffle dress for just $70 – after spending $495 on a similar style by Aje.
‘I just came into Target. Please tell me why they have the dress that I bought from Aje for $500? It literally looks the exact same as my Aje one,’ she said in disbelief.
‘It’s only $70. I paid close to $500. Obviously the dresses are a little different but come on. Quality and material are very different but still a good dupe. Go Target.’
Both pastel pink dresses have similar features, including the V-neckline, ruffles throughout and adjustable straps.
However, the styles are different side by side.
Target’s dress, featuring an off-the-shoulder sleeve design, accentuates the waist while Aje’s version has layers of ruffles, giving it a flowy look.
Despite the huge price difference, many fashionistas pointed out that Aje, an Australian luxury fashion label renowned for its unique statement pieces made from high-quality materials, offers features that the cheaper version doesn’t have.

‘I’ve got both dresses and I can assure you the Aje is nicer. However I’ve gotten equally as many compliments on the cheaper option from Target,’ one shared.
‘If it makes you feel any better, they are significantly different and I think yours is worth the extra price,’ another said to the mum.
‘Yours is much nicer, you can’t compare on quality,’ one explained.
‘You are paying $500 for better fabric, better quality control and a better fit but also a brand name,’ another added.
However, many shoppers insisted that Target’s dress was a great alternative for those who can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars on designer labels.
‘The Target one looks better,’ one said.
‘Target is so much nicer – everyone in Australia wears Aje… I don’t get it,’ another added, laughing.
‘The Target dress silhouette looks so much more nicer along with the ruffle placements,’ one pointed out.
Meanwhile, many bargain hunters expressed their love for Target, with one saying she now only wears the department store’s stylish pieces.
‘My wardrobe is now mostly Target, worth every cent and quality tends to be great too,’ one said.
‘Target has been so good lately with clothes,’ another raved.
