Sweilem: The African water sector faces many challenges, and learning is the basis for developing solutions

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation and Chairman of the Council of African Ministers of Water (AMCO), stressed the importance of education in our modern world, as the ability to create, exchange and share knowledge distinguishes developed societies, which pushes them towards higher horizons of development and innovation, pointing out The African water sector faces many challenges represented by water scarcity and the effects of climate change, and therefore learning comes as an important tool for extracting knowledge and developing solutions and innovations to achieve a better future for water in Africa.

 

He pointed out Swailem during his participation in the session “Launching the Upgraded AMCOW Knowledge Hub, and the third edition of the Voice of Africa Water magazine AVOW” For his happiness with the launch of the third edition of the Voice of Africa magazine on water (AVOW), this magazine which has become a platform for sharing ideas, solutions and best practices across the water sector in Africa, and also the launch of the “AMCO Updated Knowledge Centre”. It is a center for collecting and sharing information and knowledge for the benefit of Africa, becoming the backbone of a continental effort aimed at strengthening the management of water resources through a comprehensive network that integrates data, insights and experiences from all parts of the continent and beyond, sharing information, knowledge, lessons learned and innovations across Africa and ensuring their preservation and building upon them for future generations, in a way that represents… A major leap in our efforts to empower African countries with the knowledge and tools they need to enhance their capacity and manage their water resources sustainably.

 

The Minister of Irrigation indicated that the leaders of African Union countries and governments approved at the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for the year 2008 stressed the importance of information and the value of knowledge in accelerating the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in Africa, and they also committed to strengthening information and knowledge management at all levels.

 

Sweilem called on donors and development partners to support The center and the provision of resources to it, noting the importance of investing in building knowledge to serve the African continent, supporting decision-making and stimulating innovation in the water sector, praising the United Nations Water Strategy 2030 for allocating a special chapter to knowledge topics.
