During the course of the week, we heard both Lattouf and the ABC’s opening arguments, as well as lengthy cross-examinations of Lattouf, the broadcaster’s outgoing managing director, David Anderson, and outgoing content chief Chris Oliver-Taylor. The court is sitting two additional days, today and tomorrow, to make up for proceedings running well over schedule.
The court heard a number of jaw-dropping revelations, none more so than emails sent by ABC’s former chair, Ita Buttrose, to both Anderson and Oliver-Taylor, pushing for Lattouf to be taken off-air.
Both Buttrose and Anderson were the subjects of co-ordinated email campaigns, arguing she should be taken off-air.
On Friday, Oliver-Taylor spoke of the conundrum he found himself in, with Buttrose having made her views on Lattouf clear, Anderson furious, but was receiving advice from the broadcaster’s editorial director that she had not broken any rules.
