South Point community supports Pointers at football game following stabbing incident

GALLIA COUNTY, OHIO (WSAZ) – The violence unfolding Thursday at South Point Elementary sent shock waves through the community and it is now a long road ahead for Principal Bill Christian in his recovery.

Principal Christian was stabbed during the school day on Thursday and a parent is being charged with felonious assault in the attack.

Even though the district was struck by tragedy, this didn’t stop the South Point Pointers from taking the field against Gallia Academy on Friday.

Gallia Academy handed out navy and gold ribbons for the band, cheerleaders, and football players to wear to show their support for their opponents.

Adam Clark, Gallia Academy High School Athletic Director, said they wanted to stand behind the Pointers.

“It makes the game not as important as, you know, life when a tragedy takes place like that,” Clark said.

Pointers student athletes played in honor of Principal Christian and the Elementary School.

South Point Head Football Coach Chris Davis said he’s known Bill for years.

“Oh, he’s a wonderful person. He’ll do anything for the kids at school. He’s great in the community – does anything for everybody,” Davis said.

Coach Davis said, “we want to dedicate this game to Bill, so we’re going to go out here and give the best for him.”

The community wishes the best for him going forward.

“Now I know he’s not out of the hospital yet, and he’s not out of the woods yet, but you know right now, there’s nothing but positivity coming from the hospital. So, it gives us a little boost of confidence that everything is going to be okay,” Davis said.

The Blue Devils might have won the football game tonight, but they continue to stand behind the Pointers community.
