Sir Chris Hoy’s wife breaks silence with emotional message after Olympic icon’s terminal cancer diagnosis
Sir Chris Hoy ‘s wife, Sarra, has posted an emotional tribute to her husband following his terminal cancer diagnosis.
The 48-year-old confirmed at the weekend that he had between two and four years to live, having been diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year.
Hoy also revealed his wife, Sarra, had been diagnosed with MS before he found out about his own condition in a double blow for the family.
Sarra has now taken to Instagram to share a lovely snap of herself with her husband, who she claims is a ‘superhero’.
And she also insists they have ‘many adventures’ waiting ahead and that they’re excited about what the future holds.
“Completely overwhelmed by your kind, thoughtful and helpful messages,” she wrote.
“Many people say they don’t know what to say- that’s ok, you don’t need to have the words – just taking the time to message has been like a soothing balm to the soul. Thank you.
“I’ve been told that men seeking advice about prostate cancer is up seven fold and that Chris’s story is likely to save countless lives. This takes my breath away.
“Life is wonderful. We are excited about the future. We have so many more adventures planned…. And I am so fortunate to get to do it all with @chrishoy1 – the most incredible person I’ve ever met.
“Watching him on the BBC at the weekend was like watching a masterclass in strength of character, dignity and humility.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- he truly is my real life superhero.”
Sarra also signed off her message with the hashtag #allthatmatters. Hoy then replied with a black love heart and a kiss emoji.
Sarra has been flooded with messages of support since the post.
Rugby star George North wrote: “You are both superhero’s! X.”
Cyclist Joanna Rowsell also reached out, saying: “Sending love to you all. So inspired by your positivity xx.”
And another friend stated: “Sending you love and healing Sarra. I am sure this is going to open up MANY conversations not only about cancer. Sending you both strength for what it’s worth I am in awe of you both. Such dignity and inspiration. True hero’s.”

Hoy revealed to The Sunday Times last weekend that he’d been forced to reveal his initial cancer diagnosis earlier in the year after a journalist got wind of his situation.
He says he’s at peace with the news and that he’ll be taking medicine in order to prolong his life.
He said: “You know, we were all born and we all die, and this is just part of the process.
“You remind yourself, aren’t I lucky that there is medicine I can take that will fend this off for as long as possible.”
Discussing Sarra’s MS diagnosis, the six-time Olympic gold medallist added: “It’s the closest I’ve come to, like, you know, why me? Just, what? What’s going on here?
“It didn’t seem real. It was such a huge blow, when you’re already reeling.
“You think nothing could possibly get worse. You literally feel like you’re at rock bottom, and you find out, oh no, you’ve got further to fall.
“It was brutal.”
