Sinister history of young woman gunned down on suburban street is revealed – as a chilling photo of Chloe Mason emerges a day after the 23-year-old’s murder

EXCLUSIVE

A young woman who was chased down the street by two men and shot dead days before Christmas, had a string of criminal offences and even spent time in jail.

Police believe Chloe Mason, who is also known as CeeJay, from Caboolture on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, had been assaulted in the middle of the night and tried to flee down a suburban street when the pair gave chase.

Police attempted to revive the 23-year-old before paramedics arrived, but she was declared dead at the scene.

The murder weapon is yet to be recovered and the two mystery men remain on the run. Detectives believe the attack was not random.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that at the time of her death, Ms Mason was facing a string of charges in the Brisbane Magistrates and Supreme courts.

She had previously been sentenced 18 months in jail after being convicted of drug supply.

A close friend took to social media to pay tribute to her ‘jail sister’, recalling how they would communicate through prison cell vents during evening lockdowns.

‘Rest in peace CeeJay Mason,’ the post began. ‘We will all miss you so f***ing much my jail sister, fly high huni.’

One day after her murder, a chilling photo emerged on social media showing Ms Mason making a pistol with her hand.

Investigators are establishing a taskforce of local and specialist homicide detectives to try and bring the young woman’s family answers.

One witness said they heard, ‘about three or four gunshots and then a little bit of whimpering’.

Residents from another property on the street were taken in for questioning, though detectives maintain they have no confirmed suspects.

‘We have a number of witnesses that are currently assisting us, however, we have no person in custody,’ Detective Inspector David Harbison said.

‘It’s a tragedy to lose such a young life in such a violent manner so we will get to the bottom of it, it’s the best we can do for the family at the moment.’

On Sunday, Ms Mason’s devastated sister launched a fundraiser to share a heartbreaking message.

‘Chloe was chased down by 2 men and fatally shot on the 22nd of December 2024 in Brisbane,’ Hannah McKone posted on GoFundMe.

‘Chloe was only 23 years old.’

‘Being so close to Christmas her family has no savings or financial means to give her a funeral.

‘We are graciously asking for help and support in this. All funds donated will be directly utilised for Chloe’s funeral service.’

Another sister, Danni Mason, remembered Chloe as a ‘daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend … who was loved by many’.

‘This loss has devastated our family and we struggle to come to terms with this so close to the holidays,’ she wrote.

‘As sisters we grieve for the things she won’t experience, all the things we aren’t able to share and the memories we won’t make. She was an incredible woman.’

As of Monday afternoon the GoFundMe has raised over $7000 in donations.

‘The response has been overwhelming. Thank you all so much for your support. The family really can’t thank the wider community enough,’ the GoFundMe campaign said.

‘We’ve started looking into funeral arrangements and we were not expecting how costly it will be. $4600 is set aside for Chloe’s burial plot.’
