Singapore’s Momo Film Co, Taiwan’s Aview Images Team on New Features

Taiwan production house Aview Images has struck a partnership with Singapore’s Momo Film Co to co-produce two upcoming features – Nelson Yeo‘s “The Drought” and Daniel Hui‘s “Other People’s Dreams.”

“The Drought,” Yeo’s sophomore feature, explores family dynamics and personal struggles against the backdrop of an uninhabitable drought. The project marks a reunion between Yeo and Momo Film Co following his debut “Dreaming & Dying,” which won the Golden Leopard – Filmmaker of the Present and Best First Feature at Locarno 2023.

Hui’s “Other People’s Dreams” follows two individuals fleeing their pasts through Singapore, finding survival through theft while blending into the city’s nocturnal rhythm. The project won a co-production grant at the recently concluded QCinema Project Market, the industry platform of the Philippines‘ QCinema International Film Festival.

Momo boasts a diverse slate of films that also includes “At the Edge of the Sea,” the feature debut of Anh Le, who produced 2023 Cannes’ Camera d’Or winner “Inside The Yellow Cocoon Shell,” is an absurdist Vietnam-set drama where men start having a strange disease; Filipino debutant Arvin Belarmino’s “Ria” will examine how a folk-punk woman aids her chronically ill foster mother while defending their punk commune; and “To Leave, To Stay” from Cambodia’s Danech San, where a girl goes missing after visiting a soldier she met online.

The partnership comes on the heels of recent successes for both companies. Aview Images’ co-production “Tale of the Land” secured the Fipresci Prize at Busan International Film Festival 2024, while Momo Film Co’s “Don’t Cry, Butterfly” premiered at Venice Critics’ Week 2024, taking home two awards.

Momo Film Co’s Tan Si En said: “This will be our first co-production with Taiwan and we look forward to working with the talented producers from Aview along with working with the industry there.”

“We’re excited to partner with Momo Film. The films they have produced clearly showcase Si En’s visionary approach. This time, she has brought two remarkable directors to collaborate with us. Me and Alice You, also the co-producer of these projects, are privileged to be part of this endeavor,” said Kuek Shee Heng of Aview Images.
