Shawn Mendes Spoke Candidly About His Sexuality On Stage

Musician and singer Shawn Mendes has stunned audiences at a recent show of his, by candidly addressing his sexuality in a way he previously has refrained from speaking about the topic.

Throughout his decade-long career, the “Stitches” singer has been plagued by speculation over his sexuality, with rumours questioning where on the spectrum he fell.

However, while performing on stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on Monday evening (local time), Mendes spoke directly to his fans on the topic.

“There’s this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it so long,”, he said.

“[It was] kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”

The singer then told his audience that he felt like this speculation was “an intrusion” of something “personal”, as he figured out his identity.

He then gave the audience the “real truth”.

“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that,” Shawn Mendes said.

“And I’m trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be a human and feel things. And that’s all I really want to say about that for now.”

He then began to sing one of his unreleased songs, “The Mountain”, which features lyrics that refer to how the world has spoken about Mendes’ sexuality as his career progressed.

“You can say I like girls or boys, whatever fits your mold,” he sings.

Earlier this year, Shawn Mendes was rumoured to be back with his on-again-off-again partner, Camila Cabello.

He previously also dated Sabrina Carpenter, and thank the Lord he did because that gave us her banging track “Taste”.
