See why a simple video of a footy star in a café has exploded on social media with almost 12 MILLION views

Collingwood defender Charlie Dean has become an overnight TikTok sensation – and it has nothing to do with marking the Sherrin.

Proving chivalry isn’t dead, the 23-year-old sat patiently waiting in a Melbourne café for his girlfriend, popular content creator Charlie Rosenberg, while she headed to a Pilates class.

‘My old soul boyfriend dropped me off and waited for me to finish,’ she posted on the TikTok video, which has garnered almost 12million views in 48 hours.

‘And I found him here; headphones on, reading a book and eating a slice of banana bread. I hope we are still doing this when we’re 70.’

The comments on the video may explain why the seemingly basic clip went viral.

‘Thank you for reminding me that sweet guys do exist,’ one TikTok user said.

‘I want one old soul boyfriend for me,’ posted another. A third weighed in with: ‘May this kind of love find me.’

Dean made his AFL debut with the Magpies in 2024 against the GWS Giants following a succession of foot injuries early in his career.

‘I think he would have played round one way back (in 2022),’ Collingwood coach Craig McRae said of Dean at the time.

‘The young lad’s worked really hard and deserves his opportunity.’

While Dean won’t feature on Friday night against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG, the Magpies welcome back premiership duo Mason Cox and Jordan de Goey.

For Footscray, troubled star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan won’t play as he continues to work through personal challenges away from footy.

He missed his team’s hard-fought round one win against the Kangaroos – and must excel in a prolonged training block before club figures entertain the prospect of bringing him back into the senior team.

Speaking on AFL 360 this week, Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge admitted the supremely talented forward may not be seen in 2025.

‘I can’t answer that definitively… we are hoping,’ he said when pressed on Ugle-Hagan’s possible return.

‘As a club, we are trying to bring him back into the tent, and so we’re looking for him to provide energy and commitment. With the challenges he faces, there’s no guarantee that’s going to happen in the short-term.

‘Ultimately, we are hoping he’s going to be able to invest fully in the future.’
