It’s been a question that most The Block fans have been wondering since Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechey quit the show halfway through filming: will replacements Maddy and Charlotte Harry be forced to share their prize money with the couple?
Well, it turns out that there’s a clause in the contestants’ contracts that won’t let this happen. An insider told Yahoo! Lifestyle that while the sisters were considering sharing their prize money with Jesse and Paige, producers shut the idea down immediately.
“Producers have advised them that it is in their contract that they can’t split money with other contestants. The reason being that it promotes collusion and that could affect future seasons,” the source spilled.
“In most competition reality [series] the contracts will state that you cannot make an agreement to split prize money and the reason is more obvious than what people would think. You can’t pal up with other contestants as it creates an advantage and that is unfair to the other competitors.
“This is a first for the show. That a couple would leave midseason but they were very much made aware of forfeiting the profits of House One in Phillip Island.”
Now, Maddy and Charlotte have had a pretty rough go of it on The Block. Their fellow contestants have been treating them like shit, with Kylie and Brad telling cameras that the sisters were “the most hated people on The Block”.
Fans have rallied behind the sisters, and are hoping that they come out on top.
“After what the girls have had to endure from the other no good contestants, I hope they make a shitload of money,” one person wrote on Facebook.
“I hope the girls win big at auction and the rest get hardly anything,” another added.
“Hope the girls power on and win everything!” a third wrote.
There’s also a fan-backed campaign making the rounds on social media where The Block viewers are trying to convince buyer Adrian Portelli to buy Maddy and Charlotte’s house.
“That would be the sweetest revenge,” an insider told New Idea. “If anyone should get to walk away from this season as millionaires, it’s the girls purely for all the crap they’ve had to put up with.”
Who knew the drama from Jesse and Paige’s shock exit would continue to feed us for weeks after? I’m living for it!
