‘At 5.25am Jordan grew her wings and went to heaven to be with her little sister, she will always be remembered as our brave little hero,’ she wrote online, after the girl spent her fifth birthday fighting for life.
‘The house has been absolutely destroyed and the Aunty of the two beautiful girls, whom is also in hospital from sustaining major lacerations trying to save the lives of six children inside, has lost all her house contents.’
‘The house and all contents where the Aunty and her two boys lived is completely gone and they have nothing left,’ she later wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family.
‘We are asking for donations no matter how big or small to help this broken and grieving family.’
Emergency services rushed to the home on Benboyd Circle in Rokeby, eastern Hobart, following reports of a house fire at about 9am on Sunday.
The occupants of the home were rushed to hospital on Sunday evening, with witnesses reporting there had been ‘flames everywhere,’ in the blaze
‘The house was fully alight when police and Tasmania Fire Service crews arrived,’ Tasmania Police said in a statement.
‘Sadly, an infant was found deceased inside the residence, and another young child and an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.’
Three other children were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
‘Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected,’ police said.
The woman who called emergency services claimed there were ‘flames everywhere, out all the windows, lots of smoke’.
‘All the neighbours were coming to help … there was one man that had [taken] a fire extinguisher over and he smashed windows and got kids out,’ she told the ABC.
Witnesses reportedly heard windows exploding and people screaming.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Latham said the blaze had been ‘distressing’.
‘When I arrived there, I had police and paramedics doing CPR on children, on an adult, and at the same time I’m looking at that, to the right I’ve got firefighters doing everything they can to try and save whoever is in the house,’ he told reporters shortly after the fire.
‘I think that does highlight the good work they do. With any investigation into the death of a child, or any person, we take it very seriously.’
He said police had found no evidence to suggest foul play in the fire.
