Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith exited his team’s Sunday Night Football contest against the Green Bay Packers after sustaining a leg injury in the third quarter.
Smith was hit low on a pass play by Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper – who appeared to start stumbling before he hit the Seattle quarterback.
Smith was seen limping off the field after the hit and angrily slammed his helmet on the sideline. Later, he was seen grimacing in what NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport described as ‘significant pain’.
After the injury, backup quarterback Sam Howell deputized. The Seahawks went three-and-out and kicked a field goal to make it a 20-6 game.
According to SNF’s Melissa Stark, Smith went into the Seahawks’ ‘blue tent’ where he was examined by medical staff. He eventually went down the tunnel to the locker room – alongside medical staff and wide receiver Tyler Lockett – before going into the X-ray room.
The Seahawks have listed Smith’s official status as questionable, saying he has a knee injury.

Smith eventually came back out onto the sidelines, but appeared to still be in pain. Stark said that Smith tried jogging and moving his knee, but couldn’t do much. He eventually had a heating pad placed on his knee and was seen standing on his own power.
Before the injury, Smith was having a rough night against the Packers defense as they struggled to get the offense going.
Smith completed 15-of-19 passes for 149 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception while taking three sacks.
The running game wasn’t much better – with Smith rushing for five of the team’s combined 43 rushing yards at the time of his injury.
Howell was a former starter for the Washington Commanders – but was replaced last season by Jacoby Brissett.
Back in March, Howell was eventually traded to Seattle along with a 2024 fourth round pick (flipped to Denver) and a 2024 sixth round pick (used on OL Sataoa Laumea) in exchange for a 2024 third round pick (flipped to Houston) and a fifth round pick (flipped to Philadelphia).
