It’s the perfect time to raise your goblet of rock because two of the kiddos who kicked arse in the iconic 2003 flick, School Of Rock, got married, and the wedding was the reunion I didn’t know I needed.
School Of Rock‘s Caitlin Hale and Angelo Massagli were only 10 years old when they first met on the set of the beloved musical comedy.
For those who need a refresher on the legendary flick, School Of Rock follows Dewey (Jack Black), a failed musician who just got dumped by his band, as he becomes a fake substitute teacher for extra cash. As he takes his roomie’s place as a sub for a strict elementary prep school, Dewey manages to transform his uptight students into full-blown rockers by forming them into a band.
Hale played the role of the sassy backup singer, Marta, and Massagli took on the role of the tough kiddo, Frankie, who was a part of the band’s security.
On Sunday, the adorable pair officially tied the knot alongside their School Of Rock peers.
Amongst those who were present for the rockin’ nuptials were Rivkah Reyes (Katie), Joey Gaydos Jr (Zack), Brian Falduto (Billy), Cole East Hawkins (Leonard), Maryam Hassan (Tomika), Aleisha Allen (Alicia), Jordan-Claire Smith (Michelle), Veronica Afflerbach (Eleni), Z Infante (Gordon), Robert Tsai (Lawrence) and James Hosey (Marco).
Unfortunately, the man himself, Jack Black, was unable to attend as he was working on a movie. Despite this, Hale revealed that the comedian “was generous with his words and definitely commemorated it privately.”
Reflecting on their sweet love story, Massagli remembered being stunned by Hale’s audition for the movie.
“I was like, ‘Wow, that girl’s really, really, really something else,’” Massagli told The New York Times.
After filming for the movie wrapped, the band of musical kiddos kept in touch through a group chat. However, it wasn’t until 2018 when Massagli and Hale had a proper reconnection after they both chose to pursue degrees in Florida.
During this time, the pair would meet up for din dins and take selfies for their families, who grew close during filming.
“We thought that was kind of it,” Massagli continued.
“But we just kept grabbing dinners and going out for the weekends. We were like, ‘Something’s brewing here.’
“Even though it wasn’t romantic, that familiarity we had and our families had when we were younger, really cut through some of those early relationship hurdles.”
Hale revealed she knew Massagli was the one shortly after reconnecting with him in the southern state.
“I actually said to one of my close friends, I remember being in an Uber on the way down to Miami one weekend and we were going out and I was like, ‘I think I’m gonna marry this guy,’” she told the publication.
In 2019, the pair moved to Brooklyn and then got engaged in June 2023, with Massagli proposing in front of the Temple of Dendue at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Although the wedding didn’t feature a performance from the band, the pair did commemorate their School Of Rock roots by dancing to “Edge Of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks.
Both Massagli and Hale have quit acting, with Massagli now working as a music product counsel for TikTok and Hale as an OB-GYN sonographer.
Honestly, if this isn’t proof that the red string theory exists — the theory that two people are destined to each other and are connected via an invisible red string — IDK what is.
This is probably the most wholesome love story I’ve heard in a while, and I’m glad to have witnessed it, even if it’s just through pics!
