Sarah agreed to let her neighbours use her hose. Six months later, she caught them in a shocking act
A woman who kindly agreed to let her neighbours use her garden hose for the last six months was ‘gobsmacked’ to discover they were using it to shower.
Sydney mother Sarah called out her neighbours for ‘taking advantage’ of her generosity – and her water – in a TikTok shared this week.
‘When we first moved into the house our neighbours knocked on the door and asked us if it would be okay if they used our hose – which is one of those pull out ones that isn’t screwed onto our wall out the front,’ she said.
Sarah agreed, telling them they didn’t need to ask every time they used it.
The mother thought her neighbours would use the hose to ‘quickly fill up a bucket or water their front grass’ and didn’t mind the addition to her water bill.
But, six months later, she caught them showering with her hose on the front lawn.
‘Fully showering, I’m talking brought out the front, on their driveway – shampoo and conditioner and soap,’ she said.
‘Are they just taking the p*** at this point? I was so gobsmacked. I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t do anything.’
Sarah then asked for advice on what she should do next.
‘I think we are just being fully taken advantage of right now because we have no relationship with these neighbours other than the fact they use our hose,’ she said.
‘Do I say something or do I just remove the hose?’
The mother shared an update a few hours later saying she’d decided to move the hose to her backyard to avoid a confrontation.
She admitted she had let the neighbours use the hose for so long that she didn’t know how to cut them off without creating tension.
‘When they asked, we had just moved in – I’m talking it was two days later. I just assumed they were on their way to getting a hose or their hose just broke,’ she said.
‘I didn’t realise it was going to be six months of continuous water use.
‘It just baffles me that some people are okay with abusing the kindness of a neighbour.’

Hundreds of Aussies said they were appalled by the breach of trust and shared their own neighbour horror stories.
‘What? Your hose and water? I thought they just borrowed the hose and used it for their tap,’ one wrote.
‘We let neighbours use our pool while we were away. Thought it was fine because they were looking out for our house and doing our bins but they threw a pool party!’ another said.
‘We used to have this lady use our tap out the front every afternoon to fill her water bottle. I watched her for a week every day and when I asked her to stop she was like “it’s just a little”,’ another wrote.
‘It’s crazy that there are so many people who will find kindness and tap it dry,’ another said.
