Authorities investigating the allegations of sex crimes involving Russell Brand have asked prosecutors to consider bringing charges against the disgraced comedian.

As reported by the BBC, Brand — a comedian and actor who starred in a flurry of Hollywood movies such as Bedtime Stories and Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been interviewed three times by police since a documentary into his allegations was published in September 2023.

The documentary, which was a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches titled Russell Brand: In Plain Sight, alleged that the comedian sexually assaulted a number of women between 2006 and 2013, including one victim who was 16 at the time.

Brand denied the allegations and said they were “very, very hurtful”. He’d also released a YouTube video prior to the release of the documentary, stating that “during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual”.

On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said it received reports of sexual offences from women following the publication of the documentary, BBC reports.

“A man in his 40s had been interviewed by officers under caution on three separate occasions,” police shared.

“A file of evidence has now been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for their consideration.”

The CPS has confirmed it was handed a file of evidence, therefore it can consider pressing charges against the 49-year-old man.

In November 2023, BBC revealed it received five complaints regarding Brand’s behaviour when he presented on the network’s radio shows from 2006 to 2008.

Channel 4 issued an apology in March 2024 for “missing a complaint” made against the comedian when he worked for the channel in the 2000s.
