Ruben Amorim gives Marcus Rashford update after the Man United star was left out of Spurs defeat in midweek in the wake of bombshell interview
Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford is available for Manchester United’s clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, but Mason Mount faces another lengthy layoff following his latest injury.
Rashford was absent for the second game in a row when United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at Tottenham on Thursday night after claiming that he wants a new challenge in his career.
Amorim says he left Rashford out of the Manchester derby and Spurs tie due to his performances in training, but has kept the door open for the 27-year-old to return.
Whether that will come at Old Trafford on Sunday remains to be seen, but asked if Rashford is available, the United boss replied: ‘Yes, of course’. Pressed on whether it is a disciplinary matter, he added: ‘No, no it’s the same thing guys. It will be the same thing.’
Meanwhile, Mount is facing another spell on the sidelines after he went off with a muscle injury less than 15 minutes into United’s win over Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.
Mount has only played in 33 out of a possible 77 games since joining United from Chelsea for £60million in the summer of 2023, and will not return for ‘several weeks’ according to Amorim after seeing a specialist on Wednesday.

‘I don’t know the exact date but it’s going to be for long,’ he added. ‘That’s it, it’s part of football and you continue.’
The new head coach will try to use the time Mount is out to help him adapt to the new system he wants at United. Victor Lindelof is in the same boat after he limped out of the 4-3 defeat at Spurs on what was only his fourth start of an injury-hit season.
‘What I can do is to help Mase and teach him how to play our game,’ said Amorim. ‘When he’s recovering, try to use that time for him to think about different things.
‘The worst part is we don’t have time to train like you should do when you are recovering from a lot of injuries. We are always travelling, we have games and trainings, we don’t have all the team together and this is really hard to recreate the game before they come to the game.
‘You can see with Vic. Vic was recovering, he trained really well, we pushed him, we made all the sprints he should do before he came to the game, but the game is a completely different world.

‘They have to have more time to train so it’s really hard. We try to manage that with rotation, but even with rotation it is really hard to have all the squad.
‘With Mason Mount we are going to help him. It is really hard for the player to be out for so long and he’s trying really hard. If they try really hard we will help them until the end.’
