Revealed: Why Tiger Woods is not playing at the Masters this year – with five-time champion, 49, to miss showpiece event at Augusta

Tiger Woods is one of the most decorated golfers of all-time having won 15 Major championships during his illustrious career.
The American, 49, has picked up five Masters titles and while he hasn’t hit the same heights since being involved in a serious car accident in 2021, Woods is still one of the biggest draws for audience
However, in a blow for golf fans far and wide, Woods won’t be present at Augusta this week despite his status as a previous winner. That means he qualifies automatically as a starter for the tournament every year.
This is because the 49-year-old is currently out with injury, meaning Woods will be absent at the Masters for the first time since the aforementioned car accident – and for only the fifth time in his career.
Woods announced on social media in March that he was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and would be withdrawing from the Masters and future competitions.
This cames as a result of him rupturing his left Achilles and he subsequently underwent surgery in Florida on March 11.

Woods is a golfing great and the 49-year-old American is a five-time champion at Augusta

He announced in March that he would miss this year’s tournament as he focuses on his rehab
‘As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,’ he posted on X last month.
‘This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.
‘”The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.
‘I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.’
Woods had finished a lowly 60th at Augusta last year, although he did set a new tournament record of making 24 consecutive cuts.
He last won the tournament in 2019 and hasn’t finished above 38th place since then.
Meanwhile, his absence from the Masters comes after Woods has suffered an injury-hit year, with the American having not played competitive golf since the Open last July.
However, he did play at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, and featured in four matches earlier this year in the TGL, a new golf league Woods co-founded.

Woods confirmed his absence in a social media post last month where he updated his fans

He is in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, the ex-daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump

Sharing an Instagram post of them looking loved up last month, Woods confirmed the rumours
Woods is one of 16 past Masters champions not playing in the 95-player field at Augusta, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy among the favourites for the tournament.
However, fans are still hoping to see Woods over the next few days alongside his new partner Vanessa Trump, the former daughter-in-law of president Trump.
After months of speculation, Woods confirmed their relationship last month with it reported in the US that both of their children attend the same school.
In an Instagram post, Woods shared pictures of them together and added the caption: ‘Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side!
‘We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.’
