Inauguration day has finally arrived – and not only does it mark a new chapter for The United States, but it’s also a busy day for the world of politics, as attendees juggle tons of festivities in Washington, like the inaugural ball, luncheon and star-studded performances.
And, of course, with multiple events in one day comes multiple outfit changes – and FEMAIL has rounded up some of the best and worst looks of the day.
In the morning, the entire Trump family attended a non-partisan service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where future first lady Melania opted for a muted navy-blue look and a bold hat with white trim.
Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, also donned an understated ensemble, as she arrived in an emerald-green woolen pencil skirt with a matching blazer.
She accessorized with a beret style hat in the same shade, black high heels, sheer black tights and leather gloves, carrying a stunning Dior bag on her arm, which appeared to be the Lady Dior Bag in Black Cannage Grained Calfskin with gold finishes, which retails for $5,900.
At 12pm, Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of The United States.
It will be his second term, as he served from 2016 to 2020.
The 78-year-old has already promised to sign dozens of executive orders on his first day after telling supporters he would work at ‘historic speed’ to deal with ‘every crisis’ in America.
BEST DRESSED
While arriving at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Melania Trump opted for a chic, navy blue look designed by Adam Lippes. She wore a navy blue coat complete with a matching statement hat with white trim by Eric Javits and accessorized with black leather gloves. The hat tied together her entire look, as she sported an elegant bun and tiny diamond studs. In past years, first ladies have often worn American designers to the inauguration.
Tiffany Trump opted for an elegant, floor-length black velvet coat with a full skirt as she arrived to Church with her family. She wore an edgy pair of black boots with a stiletto heels, seemingly from Christian Louboutin as they had classic red-bottoms. Tiffany, who is expecting her first child with Michael Boulos, had on minimal jewelry but rocked glamorous curled hair and dazzling makeup, complete with bold lashes
Future second lady of the United States, Usha Vance, dazzled in a light pink cashmere coat that had fun detailing at the waist and neckline. She paired it with a pair of neutral-colored glove and taupe-colored boots for the Church service
Hillary Clinton looked chic in a woolen, navy-blue dress, complete with small stud earrings and perfectly-coiffed hair. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, matched her in a navy blue suit and patterned blue tie
Pretty in pink! Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders stunned in a magenta-pink wrap coat and black pants
Kristi Noem, Governor of South Dakota, wore a pale blue, short-sleeved dress with intricate detailing at the neckline, channeling the same color as Melania’s 2016 inauguration outfit by Ralph Lauren
Country singer Carrie Underwood looked stunning as she dressed in a sleeveless, draped silver gown for her performance at the inauguration. Her blonde hair was perfectly curled, and she topped off the look with a large pair of silver diamond earrings that featured three big pendants each. Underwood faced backlash from some for performing at Trump’s inauguration, but insiders exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com that the star is ‘looking broader than any controversies’ because she is doing the performance ‘for America, not specifically for Trump’
WORST DRESSED
Vice President Kamala Harris had on a plain, sleek black coat with silver zippered detailing and black pant for the inauguration ceremony. To accessorize, she paired the simple outfit with a pair of black pearl earrings, natural makeup, and pale pink nail polish. She was one of the few who opted for pants instead of a skirt or dress for the big occasion.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff opted for a casual look, donning a gray coat and untied light gray scarf on the White House steps. His trousers appeared a bit wrinkled, and, despite the cold temperatures, his coat wasn’t buttoned up. The husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris finished it all off with a pair of black leather gloves that had fleece lining, and lace-up black loafers
Ivanka Trump sported a dramatically-cinched, emerald-green ensemble with a blazer top and pencil skirt. She topped it off with a matching green beret and Dior bag on her arm, which appeared to be the Lady Dior Bag in Black Cannage Grained Calfskin with gold finishes, which retails for $5,900
Outfit repeater! Lauren Sánchez, who joined her fiancé, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction as she wore a tight, winter-white blazer which showed her white lacy bra. To complete matching moment, Sánchez wore a white pants. It appears to be the same outfit the soon-to-be Mrs. Bezos wore during a chat with Forbes executive vice president Moira Forbes at the 2024 Forbes Power Women’s Summit in September
A surprising choice! Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman donned a pair of gray athletic shorts, a black hoodie and gym shoes to the ceremony. He was seated front row at the ceremony, with his legs spread in front of him. The arctic blast didn’t appear to bother Fetterman, and he didn’t stray from his usual casual attire. He has worn the athletic look to the United States Capitol before
Vanessa Trump cut a casual figure in a navy blue coat with a flared waist, as well as a clashing, bright white crossbody bag. She paired the subdued coat with a pair of black pants. Vanessa was married to Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., for many years, from 2005 to 2018. She is the mother of Kai Trump, the granddaughter of the President
Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, wore a matching two-piece, pale blue woolen set, which featured a boxy-cut cardigan. She accessorized with a pearl necklace
