Restoration of the facade of the historic palace of the American University building in Tahrir
Begin The American University in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, restored the facade of its historic palace on the university campus in Tahrir Square.
This iconic building is the oldest building on campus and has a history spanning more than 150 years.
Dr. Khaled Tarabeh, the university’s architect and associate professor of sustainable design, commented on this project, saying: “The palace has witnessed the development and growth of the university over time, as well as pivotal events since its founding in 1919.
Over time, many parts of the main facade deteriorated and lost their original appearance and paint colors.
The project aims to restore the palace facade, windows, paint, and repair any damaged areas in cooperation with specialized consultants and contractors and in coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities."
