A number of US Republican politicians have called on President Joe Biden to publicly commit to a military response if China decides to attack Taiwan.
According to Newsweek, the presidential administration released a statement saying that Biden remains committed to the “one-China policy”, after Biden said the United States was ready to defend Taiwan militarily.
Illinois Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger wrote on his Twitter: “Does anyone in the White House really respect Biden’s words? Biden said we will defend Taiwan, and administration officials once again refute the president’s own words!”
He needs to fire everyone who does that.”
Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton also issued a statement calling on the United States to change its policy on Taiwan from “strategic uncertainty” to “strategic clarity.”
“Strategic clarity and military strength are the best way to contain China,” Cotton said.
