"Representatives" Final approval to amend some provisions of the Commercial Ship Registration Law

Today, the House of Representatives, headed by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, finally approved the draft law submitted by the government amending some provisions of Law No. 84 of 1949 regarding the registration of commercial ships.

The Council’s approval came after Representative Mahmoud Al-Dabaa reviewed the report of the joint committee from the Transport and Communications Committee and the Office of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee on the aforementioned draft law.

The draft law aims to enhance the size of the maritime commercial fleet through commercial ships acquiring Egyptian nationality and registering them to fly the Egyptian flag in order to increase the number of Egyptian ships in a way that supports the national economy, pushes towards becoming a global center for transport and logistics, and effectively contributes to the global trade movement. And enhancing the capacity of Egyptian ports as safe and advanced maritime centers capable of meeting the needs of global trade, taking into account the utmost levels of national security and enhancing sovereignty. National.

The report of the Joint Committee confirmed that the proposed amendments to the draft law came in line with the state’s direction towards developing legislation that regulates the maritime transport sector in accordance with the National Maritime Strategy, which emphasized the necessity of maximizing the size of Egyptian ships, and those ships that fly the Egyptian flag on them.

The amendments also come in the context of the maritime transport sector strategy2030, in order to achieve many important advantages, including the following: strengthening Egypt’s position in the international maritime field, supporting Egyptian commercial and economic activity through the Egyptian naval fleet’s contribution to transporting Egypt’s exports and imports, attracting foreign investments in the field of ships to operate under the Egyptian flag, and enhancing The competitive ability of Egyptian ports and their influential presence among international ports.

The benefits also include setting controls that preserve the rights of Egyptian investors who charter unequipped foreign ships and ensuring that they register these ships under the Egyptian flag, enhancing maritime safety by raising the level of legal deterrence and enhancing the commitment to registering ships and documenting their data.
