Read the RIDICULOUS rules imposed on visitors to a Queensland Airbnb: ‘This is why we stopped using them’
An exhaustive list of rules set by the owner of an Airbnb property has sparked outrage after they were posted online by one shocked holidaymaker.
The visitor shared a photo of the lengthy laminated ‘Terms and Conditions of Booking’ from the unnamed Airbnb home in Queensland.
The long and detailed list covered everything from monitoring the number of guests with a tracking device, extra charges for washing towels, a $30 charge for invoicing guests, charges for carpet stains, firewood, picking fruit and water usage.
‘So this was the list of rules at my Queensland AirBnb….’ the visitor captioned the photo on Reddit.
The single A4-page of tightly-spaced and small typeface instructions, threats and warnings runs to 18 separate clauses, plus a tightly detailsed footnote.
The list of rules triggered a vitriolic backlash online after they were posted, with many of the bizarre rules called out by Reddit users.
One commented on point two, which goes into great detail about the landlord’s cleaning rules and regulations.
‘A $120 fee for not emptying the dishwasher, holy s***,’ wrote one shocked poster.

‘We don’t believe in cleaning fees, but separately, we will charge you cleaning fees,’ posted another.
In another clause, the ownerswaredn tenants that any ‘additional towels taken from cupboards will be charged at an additional laundry rate of $60 per load.’
One comment expressed outrage: ‘$60 for an extra load of towels? Imagine calling to hotel reception asking for more towels and they say it’ll be $60 for a few more.’
Any carpet stains would incur a fee of $75, the owners also warned.
‘$75 per carpet stain? I’m sure that will never be abused, no sir,’ one comment read.
‘Just have one reeeeeeeealy big carpet stain,’ someone replied.

A limit on the number of guests allowed also alarmed many Reddit users, with visitors warned the home was bugged to ensure there was no breach of the rules.
‘We actually have a tracking device on the property, which alerts us to excess numbers,’ the note to tenants said.
‘Tracking device so they know if there are excess guests…? Wtf? How does that even work?’ a user wrote.
Reddit users also highlighted that points 13 and 14 about firewood were virtually identical – but questioned who would ever need firewood in Queensland.
‘Firewood…in Queensland? Did they just copy/paste this from their Tasmanian Airbnb?’ asked one.
The debate also revealed many have not abandoned Airbnb bookings in recent years over the high cost of bookings and additional cleaning charges.
Others said it had played a part in the current housing crisis gripping Australia.
‘Hotels are the way. Daily maid, call if you need new towels. No exit cleaning,’ one wrote.
‘I stopped using Airbnb a few years ago, and have missed it zero times since,’ a second wrote.
‘So they have a scam going where they make money renting a property but literally don’t expect to have to do ANYTHING to make that money,’ added another.
‘The guests prepare the property for the next guest. Ridiculous but as long as people continue to pay this won’t change.’
Another added: ‘This is why we stopped using them a few years back, the same price as a hotel, but you have to do all the cleaning or it’s more expensive.’
Many commented on the impact of Airbnb on the current housing crisis.
‘I will never use an Airbnb. They are contributing to the housing crisis in Australia. Greedy f***ers don’t care about the long-term after effects, just their $$,’ one wrote.
Another added: ‘Airbnb is a cancer that keeps f***ing up not only the housing market but the lives of those who have the misfortune of living in an area with temporary rentals that should be illegal.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Airbnb for comment.
