A former Married at First Sight star has shared the shocking message she received from this seaon’s groom Tim Gromie during honeymoon week with his bride Katie Johnstone.

Eden Harper, who appeared on last year’s series, revealed Time had sent her a message back in August when honeymoon week was being filmed.

Taking to TikTok, Eden explained that, at the time, she initially thought Tim was seeking advice, having seen an interview she did about her experiences on the program.

However after watching Wednesday’s night’s episode, in which Tim said he felt like quitting because he was not attracted to Katie, Eden now has a different perspective. 

‘I got this DM during honeymoon week of MAFS 2025 and I just thought it was someone asking for advice. But this is so f***ed up after watching last night,’ she said.

Tim’s message, sent shortly after midnight on a weekend, read: ‘Hey been so refreshing listening to the interview on Yahoo. I’m on MAFS atm and . Now and so un sure [sic]. Hope to soon soon [sic].’

Eden replied hours later at 6am: ‘Hey! Hope you’re doing all good in there! It can be rough at times.’

The former MAFS bride is not the only woman to have received messages from the new groom, with several saying they had seen Tim ‘constantly’ on dating apps.

In a video shared by That’s Showbiz, Baby! podcast, host Alexandria Funnell revealed she’d seen Tim on dating apps recently as women came forward in the comments and shared their stories about his inauthentic profile.

‘Lol I went on a date with him last year, his photos were like ten years old and he looked nothing like them,’ someone wrote. 

‘He only wanted [friends with benefits] and I said no and left after 5mins. He didn’t take it too well he unmatched me before I did in the carpark.’

‘I used to see him on there years and years ago! Constantly!’ another added.

‘Same! I said the same thing!!!!’ one said.

‘Omg me too!!! What the f**k,’ said someone else, to which the podcast channel replied: ‘He is a chronic online dating app user.’

‘It’s like he thought he could just swipe Katie away in real life,’ they added. ‘He wasn’t used to having to actually TALK to a human and connect. The exact epitome of what the series opener was referring to when they said how bad the online dating world is these days.’

Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed back in August that a groom had landed himself in hot water with the show’s producers after he was caught secretly messaging former MAFS contestants for advice behind his partner’s back.

The messages sent via Instagram raised eyebrows on set, as the groom sought advice on how to handle the show’s intense pressures.

But what really set alarm bells ringing was his supposed plan to ‘go rogue,’ a move that could potentially derail the entire season.

According to an insider close to production, ‘he’s been vocal about feeling set up by producers, even though we’re only two weeks into filming, and it’s causing a lot of tension on set.’

The insider revealed that one groom has been difficult to manage, and early discussions were had about removing him from the show.

‘He’s treating his bride terribly,’ the source continued.

‘Their living arrangement has become really uncomfortable, and it’s heartbreaking to see someone not taking the process seriously.’

The insider continued: ‘It’s like he’s more interested in leveraging his fifteen minutes of fame than actually making his marriage work.’

During Tuesday night’s episode of MAFS, 38-year-old Tim made it clear within moments of seeing Katie Johnstone, 37, at the altar that she was not what he was hoping for.

Despite Katie’s warm smile and an effort to break the ice with a hug, Tim recoiled, leaving her visibly awkward and confused.

In a shocking behind-the-scenes moment, Tim pulled a producer aside during their wedding reception to vent his frustrations.

‘Totally not what I wanted. Not good,’ Tim declared bluntly.

‘I normally go for short, petite, blonde or brunette. Katie’s nothing like what I usually go for. There’s just no attraction. I can tell straight away.’

Tim continued to lament his lack of connection, stating he felt ‘shattered’ and ’embarrassed’ by the match. 

‘I feel like I’ve wasted my time. I just want to run away,’ he admitted.

On their wedding night, Tim was initially reluctant to express his disappointment to Katie directly, trying to spare her feelings.

However, he eventually told her the truth off-camera, and then suggested they not even bother going on the honeymoon in Tasmania. 

It was a crushing blow for Katie, who had spoken before the wedding about her struggles to find love and being rejected over her appearance.

Despite the uncomfortable vibes on the wedding day, she had tried to remain optimistic up until the moment Tim told her of his lack of attraction.

Before the ceremony, Katie sat down with relationship expert John Aiken and opened up about her insecurities stemming from a past relationship.

Fighting back tears, she revealed, ‘I have a very distinct memory of being in a pool, in a bikini, with family and friends. 

‘My ex was there, looking down on me, and he asked me, “Can you lose some weight?” I felt so destroyed and ashamed. I wouldn’t even get out of that pool.’

Katie explained how the experience shaped her fears of rejection, adding, ‘For the first time, I feel like I’m stepping forward as somebody who deserves love and is ready for it.’

Tim’s cold feet over the relationship followed that of another groom Eliot Donovan who was married on the series’ premiere episode.

Trailers for Wednesday’s episode show him walking out on the experiment, after having said his matched bride Lauren Hall did not meet his exacting standards.

He said Lauren, at 37, was too old for him as he normally dated women under 30, and she was too superficial because of her love for luxury goods.
