Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn Shuts Down Retirement Claims

In a ‘yuge switch-a-roo, Aussie Olympian Dr Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn has redacted her retirement announcement, revealing that she won’t be putting a freeze on her breaking career anytime soon.

ICYMI, the 37-year-old rose to infamy when she served a series of quirky dance moves — including a kangaroo hop and the sprinkler — at the first-ever Olympic breaking event in Paris 2024. Since then, Raygun has been subjected to memes and online vitriol surrounding her performance.

Last week, and months after the Olympic Games, Raygun returned to the spotlight and shook the sporting world by announcing her retirement on 2DayFM’s Jimmy & Nath.

But now, it appears that the B-Girl has quashed the retirement claims during an appearance on the Today show, admitting that her interview on the radio show was taken out of context.

“It’s not a decision that I did come to, this turned into a story. I was talking on 2DayFM about how I’m not going to do certain competitions anymore, which didn’t seem like such a big deal because breaking is not going to be in the Olympics anyway,” the B-Girl told Today hosts Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic.

“But you know, I’m still going to be part of community jams, or I’d like to go to community jams and still dance and still break, I never used the word retire — I’m not retiring.

“You try and stop me, I’m not ever going to stop dancing so if you hear that again, you know that it’s not the truth.”

Raygun’s clarification on her breaking career comes days after she stole the show at a Tones and I gig in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

The B-Girl left fans divided after the “Dance Monkey” singer invited her on stage for a cheeky boogie where she brought out the iconic kangaroo stand.

Although the little dancey-dance was a wholesome moment, some folks online weren’t too happy with Raygun’s appearance, with one person commenting that the Olympian shouldn’t be encouraged.
