Qatar confirms the continuation of mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, confirmed that his country is continuing its mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States of America to reach a ceasefire. This came in a speech by the Emir of Qatar, today, Wednesday, during the first joint summit between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union countries, which was held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, according to the Qatar News Agency.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al said. Second: “We in Qatar believe that the ceasefire is supposed to constitute a prelude to serious negotiations leading to a comprehensive, just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.”
He pointed out that the devastating war launched by Israel – and still is – on the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, where the commission of war crimes has turned into a terrifying routine in the absence of any international accountability, based on the urgent need to find a comprehensive settlement to the conflict that is based on a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions, including complete withdrawal from The Arab territories occupied in 1967 and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Emir of Qatar called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and an end to the provocations of settlers supported by the occupation army in the occupied West Bank.
He appreciated the role of European countries that took a position on the crimes committed by Israel against civilians, and supported the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state, looking forward to a greater European role in strengthening the international consensus on the two-state solution, and moving it from words to action, through a reliable path. There is no going back to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
The Emir of Qatar also appreciated the role of the countries that recognized the Palestinian state and urged the rest of the countries to recognize it.
With regard to the Lebanese issue, the Emir of Qatar renewed Its rejection and condemnation of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, which has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians, and amounted to a blatant attack on the international peacekeeping forces UNIFIL, in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law. We call on the international community to work seriously for a ceasefire and implement the Council’s resolution. Security No. 1701.
