Premier League release statement as they reveal why Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams was NOT sent off for challenge on Man United star Alejandro Garnacho

The Premier League have revealed why Tyler Adams avoided a red card for his tackle on Alejandro Garnacho during Bournemouth’s clash with Manchester United.

Adams appeared to jump in to the challenge on Garnacho with two feet and caught the Argentine star in the 21st minute of the match at the Vitality Stadium.

Referee Peter Bankes gave the American a yellow card but the incident was checked by VAR John Brooks, who did not send the official to the monitor.

Brooks decided the yellow was sufficient punishment, much to the frustration of the Man United bench and their fans.

In a statement on X, the Premier League match centre wrote: ‘The referee’s call of yellow card for the challenge by Adams on Garnacho was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed reckless and not serious foul play.’

United’s misery was compounded minutes later as Antoine Semenyo gave the Cherries a 1-0 lead.

Alejandro Garnacho was on the end of a robust tackle from Tyler Adams, which was checked by VAR

Speaking at half-time, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp said the tackle was ‘full-blooded’ and that he ‘doesn’t want to see a red card’ for those type of challenges.
