Portugal’s Minister of State for Environment and Energy, Joao Galampa, said he does not support the European Commission’s proposal to save gas.
“This cannot be applied to Portugal. Portugal opposes this Commission proposal because it does not take into account differences between countries.
Galampa added that this initiative forces Portugal to remain without electricity.
Lisbon refused to support the European Commission’s proposal shortly after Spain’s Minister for Environmental Transformation and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, said Madrid, too, did not share the Brussels initiative.
Earlier, the European Commission obliged EU countries to submit a plan by the end of September for a voluntary cut in gas consumption by 15% until March 31, 2023.
