Part Two Coming Out? Everything We know

Unsurprisingly, Wicked: Part One starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande has become a huge success with theatre kids and new fans raving on and on about its spectacular storytelling, songs and visuals. So as we twiddle our thumbs for its second act, here’s everything we know so far about Wicked: Part Two.

As a closeted theatre kid, you best believe I WAS SAT for Wicked: Part One. And just like many fans who walked away from the cinema humming “One Short Day”, “Popular” and “Defying Gravity”, I immediately scrounged around the internet for any tea regarding Wicked: Part Two.

Although it’ll be yonks before we feast our eyes on Glinda, Elphaba and The Wizard one final time, there are quite a lot of hints dropped by director John M. Chu on what we can expect in the highly-anticipated sequel.

So, as we brew in this year-long intermission, here’s the hot goss Wicked: Part Two!

What happens in Wicked: Part Two?

AGAIN! SPOILER (sorta) WARNING.

Although the details surrounding Wicked: Part Two are quite hush-hush, theatre kids can tell you exactly what happens in the second act.

I really don’t want to give too much of the plot away — although it is already out there since the musical has been out for yonks — but in short, Part Two is basically where Wicked meets The Wizard of Oz, with the second half diving deep into the characters of the Tin Man and the Scarecrow, as well as the appearance of Dorothy Gale.

Punters can also expect to see Glinda fully evolve into the Good Witch who teams up with Madame Morrible and The Wizard to turn Oz against Ephaba AKA The Wicked Witch of the East.

That’s all imma say for now, but if you thought you were crying after Part One, wait until Part Two.

Is Dorothy going to be in Wicked: Part Two?

When asked about Dorothy’s possible appearance in Wicked: Part Two by Variety, director Chu said: “I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to ‘Part Two.’”

Imma take that as yes, just to manifest. Thank yew!

On the gossipy side of things, Dorothy did make a brief cameo at the end of Part One and in the trailer.

However, there’s no name attached to the character… Rumour has it (per Betches) Dorothy is rumoured to be played by Alisha Weir, who you’ll recognise from Abigail and Matilda: The Musical.

Who is in the cast for Wicked: Part Two?

Both Wicked films were shot back to back, so fans can expect to see all the OG cast from Wicked: Part One in Wicked: Two. If you need a quick refresher, the major stars include: Ariana Grande who portrays Glinda, Cynthia Erivo who plays Elphaba, Jonathan Bailey who portrays the role of Fiyero, Marissa Bode who plays Nessarose, Michelle Yeoh who plays Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum who plays The Wizard and Ethan Slater who portrays Boq.

When does Wicked: Part Two come out?

Wicked: Part Two is set to drop on November 21, 2025, which leaves you with plenty of time to hyper-fixate and learn about the lore of Oz.

Fingers crossed it gets pushed up though…

Is there a trailer for Wicked: Part Two?

At the time of writing, there hasn’t been a trailer, first look or teasers regarding the highly-anticipated second act of Wicked.

However, I predict that a teaser could drop around May 2025 as the trailer for Part One was dropped in early May 2024.

A girly can only hope and manifest.

Why are there two parts of Wicked?

Speaking to Variety, Wicked director Chu said it was “inevitable” that Wicked became a two-part movie, revealing that scripts that condensed the beloved musical “were stripping many songs” and were changing the storyline.

“Other scripts that were trying to fit it into one movie were stripping many songs and changing the story in ways that didn’t quite make logical, emotional sense. You can get away with that on stage, but movie audiences are tougher,” he said.
