Pamela Anderson to Receive Golden Eye Award at Zurich Film Festival

Pamela Anderson will be honored by the Zurich Film Festival, which runs Oct. 3-13. She will receive the festival’s Golden Eye Award to recognize her career achievements on Oct. 4 before presenting “The Last Showgirl” with director Gia Coppola.

In the film, Anderson plays Shelley, a 50-year-old showgirl. When her show in Las Vegas is cancelled after 30 years, she faces an uncertain future and tries to mend her long-neglected relationship with her daughter, with the help of her colleague Annette, played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

The festival commented: “Director Gia Coppola has crafted a touching and bittersweet homage to a dancer in the twilight of her career with this nocturnal Las Vegas film. Pamela Anderson delivers a heartwarming performance in the perfectly cast lead role.”

Christian Jungen, artistic director of the Zurich Film Festival, said: “Pamela poured her heart and soul into the character of Shelley and captivated us right from the start. She completely immersed herself in her character, turned Shelley’s inner life inside out with her facial expressions and made sure that we sympathized with her.

He added: “A terrific performance, perhaps the best of her career, which deserves an Oscar nomination. We are therefore delighted to honor Pamela Anderson, this cult actress with whom many of us have grown up and who has reinvented herself time and again, at the Zurich Film Festival.”

“The Last Showgirl” was written by Kate Gersten. The cast also includes Kiernan Shipka, Billie Lourd, Dave Bautista and Brenda Song.

CAA, Goodfellas and Utopia are handling rights on the film.
