The Institute of Agricultural and Biological Research at the National Research Center is organizing, on Tuesday, October 15, the institute’s scientific forum, under the title: “Palm cultivation today… the industry of tomorrow,” under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Fajr Abdel Jawad, Acting President of the National Research Centre, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Hazin, Acting Dean of the Institute, and in the presence of many public figures.This year’s forum sheds light on the future of Production of dates in Egypt with the aim of multiplying and producing dates and combating palm diseases and pests, as well as combating diseases related to the storage and manufacturing steps of the fruits to comply with global requirements, as Egypt is the largest producer of dates in the world with a production of up to 1.7 million tons, representing 17.7% of the global production percentage. The production of wet varieties represents 52% of this amount.
Egypt was interested in planting 7 million palm trees of semi-dry varieties in the last five years to increase Egypt’s ability to export high-quality dates, as the needs of the global market for dates represent 33% of semi-dry varieties, in which Egypt participates by 9%. %, which requires further expansion in the cultivation of semi-dry varieties to meet global demand.
It is noteworthy that Egypt is currently recently witnessing an increase in its production rates of semi-dry dates, due to the expansion in the cultivation of semi-dry varieties, as its production rate has increased to more than 350 thousand tons annually of high-quality dates, which has led to  Increase the price of a ton in export from 4,000 to 8,000 dollars. The forum brings together scientific cadres, investors, businessmen and industrialists, to encourage the production and export of High-quality semi-dry dates as required globally, which helps boost the country’s economy.
