Ozempic, aliens and Monsters, Inc: The best and worst of Celeb-o-ween

As if the world isn’t scary enough right now, it also happens to be Halloween. Bringing sprinklings of gory glamour to our feeds during an anxious run-up to the US election next week, as ever, the world’s most famous stars have been parading their best pop culture costumes. “It’s a strange year, there’s a lot of anxiety & anticipation in the air. I hope my costumes and shenanigans brought a little joy this year,” wrote Lizzo on Instagram next to a photo where she’s dressed as Edward Scissorhands. “I do this because it’s fun,” she continued, “but I also do this because as an entertainer and artist. I want to uplift the people.” Thanks, Lizzo!

The unspoken A-list competition seems to get more extravagant year after year, with a slew of over-the-top photoshoots, months of pre-planning, and hours spent in hair and makeup. For the rich and famous, Halloween has basically become spooky season’s Met Gala. In a week which seems to have lasted for five years, the costumes have been continuously rolling in. From Heidi Klum as ET in drag, to Amelia Dimoldenberg as Roz from Monsters, Inc, and literally everyone as Halle Berry, there have been some great ones this time around – but there are also plenty more costumes we’ve seen done to death, proving a bottomless budget doesn’t always come out on top. Take a look through our list below to see all the tricks and treats of Celeb-o-ween 2024 – how would you rank the bunch?
