Owner of Harry Potter-themed Airbnb left ‘traumatised’ after guests smash furniture and leave brown stains on bed – leaving ‘more than £5,000’ worth of damage

The owner of a Harry Potter themed rental property has been left heartbroken after a guest left them to clean up ‘the most horrific scene ever’, with ‘more than £5,000 worth of damage’.

They posted the aftermath of the disastrous stay on TikTok, revealing brown stains over the floor and bed and claiming their guests had ‘literally trashed the entire place’.

The clip shows furniture on its side in the living room and frozen chips covering the carpet, while the TV is smashed with ‘bleach poured all over it’. 

In the TikTok, which has 5.5million views, a voiceover explained: ‘Things are all out of place, the TV has been smashed with bleach poured all over it.

‘Frozen chips all over the floor, Fanta splashes all over the walls and the windowsill.’

Sadie, who wished to keep her surname private, 30, runs several properties which she rents out on Airbnb and Booking.com.

Sadie’s Harry Potter-themed rental was booked for a one-night stay for two adults via Booking.com earlier this month.

Sadie’s brother, who helps her running the properties, was the first person the enter the flat after the guests had left and was ‘traumatised’ by the experience.

According to Sadie, the guests permanently stained the mattress with cocoa and coffee.

They also broke the sofa bed, smashed several glasses and destroyed the TV.

Sadie’s brother also found the duvets and sheets soaked with water and the the walls, blinds, carpets and radiators drenched in Fanta.

She noted that some themed floating candles she had on the ceiling are now on the floor, while the living room ‘is a mess’. 

The property owner added that the house, in Watford, was also left with smashed Harry Potter mugs and glasses in the kitchen.

‘We have never had anyone do this,’ she said. ‘This was made for families with children, and now we have had to close it down until it is safe.’

While panning the property in the clip, viewers can see a huge brown stain on the bed, and a thick brown liquid inside a bin.

These stains are also on the carpet, while furniture has been pushed around in every direction.

The owner continued: ‘The most heartbreaking thing, how someone can be so cruel to do this to a place which was thoughtfully made to make young children smile.’

Sadie, a dental nurse in Watford, Hertfordshire said the mess has been ‘extremely difficult to deal with’.

‘Both my brother and I are traumatised by the whole thing,’ she added. ‘We’ve had the rental open nearly a year and only ever hosted nice family guests.

‘We never thought this could happen.’

Sadie runs three Harry Potter-themed properties in the Watford area, aimed at families coming to visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

‘Part of why this is so upsetting is how much time and effort we put in to make these spaces magical for the children who come to visit,’ she continued.

‘We have had so many lovely messages left in our guest book from children who enjoyed their stay.

‘So it’s difficult to see someone violate the space in this way.’

Sadie estimates the total costs of damages to be at least £5,000 which includes two professional cleans of the property and replacing the mattress, the TV, the sofa bed and the Wi-Fi router.

It’s been ‘tough’ for her and her brother to take in everything that has been damaged. 

‘This is one of our most popular spots, so we had to relocate other guests who were booked to stay there to different properties,’ she added. ‘Right now, all we can do is absorb the immediate costs.’

Sadie contacted Booking.com and the police about the incident.

Sadie said: ‘They got back saying damages done by guest are not their responsibility but that we should send some photos and video so they can address it fully.

‘We haven’t heard back since providing those images.’

Hertfordshire Police said in a statement:

‘Police are investigating a report of criminal damage in Watford.

‘The incident happened inside a property in Gammons Lane between 1pm on Saturday 15 February and 1pm on Sunday 16 February.

‘Damage was caused to a TV, a wi-fi router, the carpet and a mattress.

‘Enquiries are ongoing at this time but if you have information, you can report it online at herts.police.uk/report.’

Viewers were shocked by the scene left behind, with one saying she thought she had stumbled across a crime scene cleaning page.

Another said: ‘I’d honestly call forensics because that bed does not look like just mess.’

A third person added: ‘Makes my blood boil sorry to see this. I hope you reported them to Airbnb. What on earth have they done to that mattress?’

The owner explained that although the property is listed on Airbnb, this particular guest booked their stay through Booking.com.

Another person said: ‘This doesn’t look the acts of a random guest. Someone wanted to wreck your business. Upset anyone recently?’
