“Our financial situation is dangerous”, estimates the First President of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici
Michel Barnier’s government is probably living its last hours. Under the threat of a motion of censure from the National Rally, he could be overthrown in the middle of the afternoon this Monday. Guest of the “4V” Monday December 2, the First President of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici, recalled the challenges of this day. “A dissolution has consequences”he declared before discussing the country’s economic situation: “Our financial situation is dangerous. We have three thousand two hundred billion euros in debt, 110% of GDP in terms of public debt and a debt burden of 70 billion euros compared to 25 three years ago.
The former Minister of the Economy (2012-2014) also recalled the risks linked to government censorship and a non-vote on France’s budget. Regarding income tax, “as the tax scale is no longer indexed to inflation, four hundred thousand low-income households fall into this scale, several million will see their tax increase”. To another extent, the security of the country could be threatened, “we cannot apply programming laws in matters of defense and security, at a time when the world is quite dangerous”.
