Ohio State reveal whether they will visit Donald Trump White House after national championship win

Ohio State coach Ryan Day has confirmed that the Buckeyes will visit the White House following their national championship victory.

Day revealed on Monday that his team will visit Donald Trump on April 14 – two weeks before the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both teams have been invited to Washington for the traditional post-season meeting with the president.

‘It’s an honor to be invited,’ Day told reporters on Monday.

‘I remember growing up and watching the national championship teams going to the White House… it’s part of the celebration of our team.’

The Buckeyes beat Notre Dame to win the national championship on January 20, a few weeks before the Eagles beat the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIX on February 12.

Despite Kansas City failing in their bid for a historic three-peat, Trump revealed that he plans to host Travis Kelce and Co. at the White House.

The Chiefs would head to Washington five years after their 2020 visit was canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

Speaking to Outkick’s Clay Travis on Air Force One on Saturday night, Trump said: ‘I look forward to having the Eagles. And one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of Covid.’

This would be the first time that the Chiefs visit President Trump at the White House – but not their first time visiting the White House itself.

They previously visited President Joe Biden in consecutive years after their repeat wins in 2023 and 2024.

The Chiefs are yet to comment publicly on Trump’s latest comments, and no date has yet been set for their invite. The Athletic cited a source who said the team had yet to receive a formal invite.

Many eyes will be on Kelce if and when the Chiefs do go, given his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s very public campaigning against Trump before the 2024 election.

The Eagles also did not visit Trump in 2018 after their Super Bowl win that year, which was during Trump’s first term.

After Trump called on NFL owners to fire players who protested during the national anthem – a list which included several Eagles – the team reportedly decided to send a small group of less than 10 players to Washington.

Trump then canceled the visit.
