NSW Police explain why they have not charged male nurse who threatened to kill Israelis

EXCLUSIVE

Police say former nurse Ahmad Rashad Nadir is receiving ‘ongoing medical treatment,’ as they’ve yet to speak to him about a video where he threatened to kill Jewish patients.

It comes after detectives arrested Nadir’s former colleague, 26-year-old Sarah Abu Lebdeh, when she attended Sutherland Police Station in southern Sydney with her lawyer about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The Condell Park woman was charged with three Commonwealth offences: threatening violence to group, using a carriage service to threaten to kill and using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

She was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, March 19.

Abu Lebdeh was arrested two weeks after she and Nadir, dressed in NSW Health scrubs at Bankstown Hospital, allegedly went on an anti-Semitic tirade in a viral video posted to social media on February 12.

But police have yet to speak to Nadir or lay charges against him.

On Wednesday morning, NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia that he was ‘receiving ongoing medical treatment’.

It’s understood that Nadir’s situation has hampered the ability of police to interview him.

On the night of February 13, a day after the alleged anti-Semitic video was posted to social media, Nadir was rushed to hospital amid concerns for his mental health.

Police confirmed at the time that emergency services were called to his home in the western Sydney suburb of Bankstown due to concerns about his welfare.

It’s unclear how much of Nadir’s time has been spent in hospital, and in his Bankstown townhouse, in the days since.

Speaking to 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Wednesday morning, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb refused to be drawn on whether Nadir was currently in a mental health facility.

‘Am I right in saying that he’s in some kind of facility at the moment, does that hamper your efforts in being able to interview him or charge him?’ asked Mr Fordham.

‘I don’t want to talk about an individual’s personal circumstances, but suffice to say that matter’s ongoing until we’re able to talk to him,’ Ms Webb said.

‘We just have to work around his personal circumstances at the moment.’

Both nurses have been deregistered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW, meaning they are unable to practice anywhere in Australia.
