Nominations for the mid-term elections for the Alexandria Sub-Union are open on October 7

The Journalists Syndicate Council, headed by Khaled El Balshy, head of the Journalists Syndicate, decided to open nominations for the mid-term elections for the sub-syndicate in Alexandria on Monday, “October 7,” provided that the elections will be held to choose a president for the syndicate, and three members of the council instead of those whose membership terms expired on Wednesday. October 30, 2024 AD, for a new term of two years for the president, and four years for the members.

 

 

Gamal Abdel Rahim, Secretary General of the Syndicate, stated that the supervisory committee The elections will receive applications for candidacy starting from Monday, 10/7/2024 AD, daily (except Friday) (10 am – 3 pm), and ending at 12 noon on Saturday, 10/12/2024 AD. On the same day, the names of applicants for candidacy and the list of members of the General Assembly will be announced. Who have the right to vote.

 

Abdul Rahim added that the committee receives appeals and waivers for candidacy daily for a period of five days, starting Sunday 10/13/2024 AD (10 am – 3 pm). It ends at twelve noon on Thursday 10/17/2024 AD, and the final lists of candidates and voters will be announced on the same day, after adjudicating the appeals and excluding those who abdicated.

 

The Secretary-General indicated that According to Union Law No. 76 of 1970, whoever nominates himself for the position of president of the sub-union must have been registered for at least (10) years in the roster of workers, and at least (3) years (for members), and not have had disciplinary rulings issued against him. During the three years preceding the candidacy.

 

 

The Secretary-General explained that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 10/30/2024 AD, by general secret ballot, and that The president of the sub-union is elected by an absolute majority of the valid votes of those present. If one of the candidates does not obtain this majority, the election is repeated at the same meeting between the candidates who obtained the most votes. In this case, the election will be by a relative majority, and when the votes are equal, voting will take place between those who obtained the equal votes.

 

 

While the election of the members of the sub-union council shall be by a relative majority of the valid votes of those present, if the votes are equal among more than one candidate, a ballot shall be cast among those who obtained equal votes. In the event that a quorum is not reached for the General Assembly, the elections will be postponed for two weeks and will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 AD.
