Nine presenter Tony Jones accepts Danielle Collins’ Brat dance challenge – but there’s just one condition

Veteran Channel 9 newsreader Tony Jones says he will accept Danielle Collins’ Brat dance challenge – but only if the fiery American does it with him.

Jones labelled Collins a ‘brat’ last week after she blasted the crowd in Melbourne as ‘super drunk’, slapped her backside and bragged about her eye-watering winner’s cheque.

‘My view is she’s a brat,’ he told 3AW Drive.

‘When you get people like Danielle Collins who lives this (lavish) lifestyle and then rubs our noses in it… I thought it overstepped the mark.’

But Collins, quick to respond, screenshotted Jones’ remarks and posted them on her Instagram story alongside a sarcastic caption.

Referring to the ‘brat summer’ aesthetic made popular after the release of the Charli XCX album Brat, Collins wrote: ‘I love when these old dudes like Tony know the vibe #bratsummer #brataussiesummer #charliexcx.’

After her loss on Saturday night, Collins spoke more about Jones at her press conference.

‘I love this old guy, Tony Jones … I just love how he called me a brat. It’s just so Gen Z and Millennial right now with Charli XCX,’ she said.

‘I really want him to do the dance. He has to do it. I really want to get a one-on-one with him, and we got to do the dance.’

On Sunday morning, speaking on Nine’s The Morning Serve, Jones accepted the challenge – but only if Collins does it with him.

‘The challenge is out there, how can I say no?,’ he said.

Former tennis great Casey Delacqua remarked it would be ‘a sight to see’.

Melbourne’s raucous crowd enjoyed the last laugh over Collins as she suffered a 6-4 6-4 third-round exit at the hands of compatriot Madison Keys on Saturday night.

Booed from the moment she stepped foot on Rod Laver Arena, 10th seed Collins was stoic.

‘Yeah, I expected that (booing), obviously. That’s fine,’ Collins said.

‘I really do enjoy playing in these types of environments. It’s what you work so hard for your entire life as a kid. I embraced it.

‘The biggest thing is that nobody got hurt.

‘Maybe some feelings got hurt or things were taken personally, and they probably shouldn’t have been taken personally by the crowd.

‘But, yeah, I feel like people take life way too seriously, sometimes.’
