NFL quarterback looks unrecognizable as he goes undercover as superfan

Baker Mayfield was disguised as a Buccaneers superfan as he interacted with other Tampa Bay diehards for the pilot of a brand new Amazon Prime series.

The eighth-year veteran starred in Episode 1 of Peyton and Eli Manning’s The Undercovers series, in which NFL stars go undercover and interact with their respective fanbases before revealing their identities.

In the first installment of the series, Mayfield wore a prosthetic nose, a long wig, and a bandana. He also sported a fake mustache as he went on his undercover journey.

‘I am no longer Baker Mayfield, I will now be Gus Swayze,’ he said in a trailer for the show.

The minute-long montage included Mayfield calling his wife Emily Wilkinson to say ‘Hey there, pretty mama,’ after his makeover was done. His partner then responded by saying ‘Ew!’

Mayfield suited up for the Buccaneers

He is then seen walking around the Buccaneers’ practice facility as his teammates met his character with laughter.

Mayfield is also seen in a meeting with the fans, discussing performances, to which Swayze says: ‘I wish he’d just focus on football.’

Furthermore, Mayfield’s alter ego said he ‘hopes he can handle’ calling his plays this year after a fan brought up the subject.

Mayfield is in his second season facilitating the Bucs’ offense. Before arriving in 2022, he spent four seasons in Cleveland and had single-season stints in Carolina and Los Angeles.

The Bucs are off to a good start with a 3-1 record this season. Apart from a Week 2 loss to Denver, Mayfield led Tampa Bay to convincing wins over Philadelphia, Detroit, and Washington.

Mayfield has completed 91 of his 129 attempts for 984 yards and eight touchdowns with only two interceptions.

Before taking the idea of undercover quarterbacks to Amazon Prime, Eli Manning starred in a similar concept when he crashed Penn State’s walk-on tryouts disguised as Chad Powers.

The segment was made for his Eli’s Places series for Omaha Productions.
