New York Jets star Xavier Newman rushed to hospital after horror injury as he leaves game on stretcher
New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman has been rushed to hospital after suffering what appeared a serious neck injury in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Newman fell awkwardly after shipping a heavy hit midway through the third quarter and was initially unable to move his limbs as he laid in agony on the turf.
When an Aaron Rodgers pass was intercepted by the Steelers, the 25-year-old took the hit and stumbled backwards in an attempt to find his balance, only to fall and land heavily on the back of his neck.
After medics rushed onto the field, he left the game on a stretcher and quickly made his way to hospital in terrifying scenes.
NBC has since confirmed Newman was able to squeeze a trainer’s hand after regaining movement in his limbs.
