Denver Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey is joining the New York Jets as their new general manager, according to reports.
The Jets are undergoing a huge makeover after a miserable season which saw them go 5-12 and miss out on the NFL playoffs, with ex-player Aaron Glenn leaving his role as Detroit Lions offensive coordinator to fill their head-coach vacancy this week.
Now the team appear to have landed a new GM too, with reporter Josina Anderson claiming Mougey is set to take charge following the dismissal of Joe Douglas in November.
The 39-year-old, a former wide receiver in his own playing career, has spent over a decade with the Broncos after first joining as a scouting intern back in 2012.
He went on to enjoy a number of different roles in Denver before eventually becoming assistant general manager in February 2022.
During his three-year tenure as George Paton’s right-hand man, Mougey helped the Broncos secure its first playoff berth in a decade this season, which ended in defeat against Super Bowl contenders the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.

After an interview with the team on January 11, reports suggested the long-time Denver chief was battling it out with Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel exec Trey Brown and Washington Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark for the job in New York.
He has a huge job on his hands with the Jets, who are still reeling from two of the most anticlimactic seasons in their history with quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the helm.
There were high hopes for Rodgers in 2024 after his disastrous first season as a Jet, which ended when he ruptured his Achilles tendon just three snaps into his highly-anticipated debut against the Bills.
Yet despite returning to full fitness, the four-time MVP was unable to live up to expectations in New York, with 10 defeats in 13 games eliminating them from playoff contention by December 8.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich suffered a miserable spell in charge after the astonishing firing of Robert Saleh, who was axed in October after going 2-3 in the Jets’ first five games of the campaign.
