NBA champion Jaylen Brown becomes latest sports star to have his mansion targeted by ‘criminal ring’

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has become the latest high-profile name to be targeted by a criminal ring burglarizing the homes of athletes and their families.

According to Boston television station WCVB, thieves broke into a property belonging to Brown’s mother, Mechalle, in Wellesley, Massachusetts while she was home Sunday.

Local police responded to a call for a possible breaking and entering at a home on Kenilworth Road, before they confirmed as much after arriving to find a broken window.

It is believed the culprits mistakenly thought they were breaking into Brown’s property while the Celtics were playing a road game against the Washington Wizards.

A number of famous sporting figures have seen their pads raided of late, with NFL icons Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce both victims of burglaries in the Kansas City area last month.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s $7.5million mansion was also ransacked last week, while NBA star Bobby Portis claimed thieves broke in and took ‘most of his prized possessions’ while he was on court for the Milwaukee Bucks last month.

Like Portis, Burrow was also playing a road game when the burglary at his home took place, with thieves entering the property while he was nearly 1,000 miles away in Texas for a Monday Night Football showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

The FBI was investigating the incidents at Mahomes and Kelce’s homes, as well as the burglary of one other current NFL player’s property, and believe the thieves were part of a wider underworld organization, meaning players have been warned to take extra precautions at their homes.

‘It’s legit,’ an insider told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. ‘It’s a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they’ve focused on NBA and NFL players, and it’s all over the country.’

The NFL issued a security alert to teams and players after the burglaries at Mahomes and Kelce’s mansions, warning them about organized and skilled criminals that are targeting the homes of professional athletes.

The break-in at the home of Brown’s mom remains under investigation. It is unclear if anything was taken from the property.

The Celtics shooting guard, who helped the team win the NBA Championship last season, recently put his own $4.8million South Boston penthouse up for sale.
