The National Council for Women participated yesterday in the activities organized by the United Nations Population Fund, coinciding with the International Day of the Girl.
The Council participated in the activities of the first session, which was entitled " “Digital Assets for Teenage Girls”, and discussed a number of issues, including the role of relevant institutions in spreading technological awareness for girls.
During the session, “Sherine Maher”, coordinator of the “Noura” program, explained: The Council, which comes within the National Framework for Investment in Girls under the patronage of Mrs. Intisar El-Sisi, stated that the program aims to provide girls with the necessary life skills in order to ensure a better future for them.
It targets girls from Age 10-14 years, stressing the need to make more efforts to eradicate digital illiteracy among girls and provide a safe technological environment for them.
The Council also participated in the activities of the second session, which came under Title " “Female circumcision… real experiences and community and religious initiatives”, where Yasmine Qortam, Director General of the General Department of Awareness Campaigns, reviewed the efforts of the National Committee to Eliminate Female Circumcision, co-chaired by the National Council for Women and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood Since its establishment in 2019, which includes organizing many campaigns, including: door-knocking campaigns entitled “Protect her from circumcision” to educate society about the dangers of this issue from a medical and legal perspective.
She added, The Council sought the help of clerics from Al-Azhar and the Church, in order to spread religious awareness about the dangers of circumcision, which had a great impact in various villages and cities throughout the governorates of Egypt.
She also confirmed However, the Council has allocated the hotline 15115 in the Women’s Complaints Office to provide the necessary assistance to affected girls.
The Council also participated with a photo exhibition, The success stories of the girls of the “Noura” program reflect In Sohag and Assiut governorates, the program contributed to changing their personalities, their lives, and developing their skills.
The exhibition also included pictures of a group of the program’s facilitators and the girls’ families, and the pictures were taken by the photography team. In the General Directorate of Information of the Council, which consists of Israa Ihab Al-Moataz, His Excellency Magdy, Mahmoud Al-Masry, and Osama Magdy.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations General Assembly adopted its resolution 66/170 To declare October 11 of each year as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges faced by girls around the world. It aims to focus attention on the need to address the challenges faced by girls, promote girls’ empowerment, and realize their human rights.
