"Nationalize women" Organizing a student meeting and workshop entitled "Activating units to combat violence against women"

In light of the implementation of the protection axis of the National Strategy for Empowering Egyptian Women 2030, and within the framework of implementing an action plan to activate the role of units for combating violence against women in Egyptian universities in raising students’ awareness and enhancing the capabilities of the units’ members and coordinators in implementing the unit’s work mandate.

The National Council for Women organized a student meeting and a workshop entitled “Activating the role of units to combat violence against women in Egyptian universities.” In cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and the United States Agency for International Development, it targeted female members, unit coordinators, college coordinators, male and female students in university colleges, and female and postgraduate researchers volunteering with the unit.

 

And that in universities. :(Minya, Beni Suef, and Beni Suef Technological University), in the presence of Nermin Mahmoud, Rapporteur of the Council’s Branch in Beni Suef Governorate, and Dr.  Najah Al-Talawy, rapporteur of the Council’s branch in Minya Governorate, and Dr. Shaima Naeem  Director General of the Strategy Department at the Council and responsible for following up on the efforts of the units to combat violence against women in Egyptian universities, Dr. Ismat Soliman, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at the University, Dr. Ghada Toson, Director of the Anti-Violence Unit at Beni Suef Technological University, and Dr. Ghada Atef, Director of the Anti-Violence Unit at Beni Suef University.

     Where both  Nermin Mahmoud, rapporteur of the Council’s branch in Beni Suef Governorate, and Dr.  Najah Al-Talawy, Rapporteur of the Council’s branch in Minya Governorate, presented an overview of the Council’s powers, its importance and role in confronting violence against women, and the Council’s role during the 16-day campaign of activities to eliminate violence against women.

 

While Dr. Shaima Naeem presented the Council’s role in supporting women and girls in all fields and linking women’s empowerment to sustainable development goals, the basic concepts of violence and empowerment, and the protection axis within the national strategy to empower Egyptian women. 2030.

 

It also presented the results of the economic study on violence against women launched by the Council in cooperation with the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics and the United Nations Population Fund in 2015,  It also presented the specializations of the work of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and its mechanism of work within the university, and the most important results achieved to activate and sustain these units, as well as the national referral path, and clarifying the role of the Safe Women’s Units in university hospitals, of which there have been (12) at the level of university hospitals in some governorates to provide service. For women, from a health and psychological standpoint, they can be referred to social or legal services if necessary. 

 Enas Jumaa, a lawyer at the Complaints Office, reviewed Women in branch  The Council in Beni Suef discussed the role of the Women’s Complaints Office, its objectives and powers, the institutional framework of the Complaints Office, the office’s interventions, the office’s partners, channels for receiving complaints, the formal conditions for accepting complaints, and the national referral system.

This workshop included a short video presentation about the role of the units and their work mechanism, and the participants presented In the workshop, work groups were created for training on preparing the plan, developing indicators and a follow-up mechanism, formulating measurement indicators, and presenting the results to the work groups.

 

It focused The workshop will discuss basic concepts about gender equality, equal opportunities, violence against women, concepts of plan and planning, developing performance indicators, formulating activities and determining the results and impact of implementing activities supporting the protection and empowerment of women and girls on campus.
