"National for Women" Participates in the activities of the United Nations Climate Conference "COP29"
The National Council for Women participated in the activities of the twenty-ninth United Nations Climate Conference (COP29), which is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the period from 11 to 22 November 2024.

Engineer Jihan Tawfiq, Head of the Central Administration of the Office of Presidential Affairs, participated in an intervention via video conference technology in a high-level session entitled “Women are at the forefront of climate adaptation and peacebuilding efforts,” with the participation of Ambassador Ahmed Abdel Latif, Director General of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), Alessandro Fracasetti, Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Egypt, Ms. Sithembiso Nyoni, Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Tony Kimmel Sola Balai, Director of Communications, Friends of the Palau National Marine Reserve.
In her intervention, she reviewed Engineer Jihan Tawfiq The National Strategy for Empowering Egyptian Women 2030, which gives priority to women’s role in environmental protection and economic empowerment, and includes interventions to enhance women’s ability to deal with environmental risks, climate change, and unsustainable consumption. The National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change 2050 also includes a perspective for women’s empowerment.
Engineer Jihan Tawfiq referred to the international presentation of Egypt’s vision on the issue of women, environment and climate change, which was launched during the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in March 2022, and encourages a just environmental transition.
She also confirmed that during the COP27 climate conference, which Egypt hosted in 2022, the National Council launched Women Also Initiative "Climate Adaptation Priorities for African Women" (AWCAP), recognizing the urgent need to make women central to our response to climate change, with the support of 11 Member States, the initiative has focused on identifying key priorities to guide our collective action, making it clear that climate change must be recognized as unique challenges to African women in particular, as they are guided by The AWCAP initiative adheres to the principles of the Paris Agreement and international and regional frameworks for women’s rights.
Tawfiq indicated that to achieve these goals, Identifying key priorities, including integrating gender equality principles into all negotiations and outcomes, ensuring equal representation of women in decision-making processes, and securing climate financing that meets the unique needs of African women, stressing that by working together, we can build a more sustainable and equitable future for all, concluding Her intervention, saying: " Let us use COP29 as a platform to strengthen African women’s voices, invest in their leadership, and ensure they are at the forefront of climate action.”
