Namejs 2022 exercise kicks off with NATO participation in Latvia

In all regions of Latvia, from April 18 to May 27, the spring phase of large-scale military exercises Namejs 2022 will be held with the participation of NATO units.

The purpose of the exercises is to improve the integration of national and allied forces to solve defense problems. Military units from the USA, the Czech Republic, Poland, Britain, Lithuania and Estonia will arrive in Latvia to participate in the first phase of the Namejs 2022 programme.

Training tasks, in addition to Latvian units, will be carried out by units that are currently deployed as part of the NATO Extended Combat Group in Latvia and represent ten countries: Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Iceland, Montenegro, Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain .

In the exercises, these nations will be represented by ground mechanized units, artillery, flight and landing units. In addition, the exercises will include elements of operational planning and logistics.

In total, about 3 thousand soldiers from other countries will participate in the exercises.
