Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal Affairs and Political Communication, said that in confirmation of the atmosphere of openness, the President of the Republic reactivated the Presidential Pardon Committee and expanded its work in April 2022, which reflects the political will to reconsider the files of convicts who meet the conditions for pardon in accordance with the Constitution.
The Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs explained, in the side event organized by the Permanent Mission of Egypt in Geneva, under the title “Enhancing Participation Politics in Egypt and Human Rights”, in the context of keenness to shed light on the Egyptian experience in the field of human rights, and to enhance positive interaction with international partners, that the Presidential Pardon Committee that was formed had a prominent role in examining and preparing lists Pardon and coordination with the relevant authorities to follow up on the pardon procedures and ensure the reintegration of the released persons into society.
The President of the Republic responded to the calls of many political parties and personalities to grant amnesty to some individuals from the list. Those sentenced on various occasions.
Mahmoud Fawzi pointed out that in recent years, a large number of those who were released have benefited during national holidays and special occasions. In addition to those who were granted a presidential pardon for the remainder of their sentences, after they fulfilled the conditions of release according to the various cases.

As for physical safety, Mahmoud Fawzi indicated that the executive regulations for the Law Regulating Clinical Medical Research were issued in March 2022, and this regulation guaranteed the right of individuals to withdraw. From medical research at any time without having to provide reasons. It also stipulated that any medical research be conducted after adopting a protocol approved by the competent committee.

The attendees praised the steps taken by Egypt to enhance national dialogue and political participation, while affirming their support for Egypt to continue these efforts to ensure the promotion of human rights and support the democratic process.
