Mother-of-the bride raises eyebrows over bizarre DIY dress for the wedding: ‘It’s the worst I have ever seen’
A woman has been slammed online after showing off the outfit she lovingly made to wear at her step-daughter’s wedding.
The DIY frock, which was inspired by a $2,500 Stella McCartney gown, was described as an embarrassment and a ‘complete train wreck’ after screen shots were shared to a wedding shaming group on Facebook.
In her original post, the woman said she wanted something special to wear as step-mother of the bride.
She came across the Stella McCartney Rewild Flower dress on Pinterest and felt inspired by the handmade crochet gown.
But she couldn’t afford it – so she made her own version.
‘350 hours later and I was still trying to finish it so that explains the price tag,’ she said.
She said she wanted to re-wear the dress to her other step-daughter’s wedding, but was thinking of dying the dress lime green and creating ‘cobwebs’ between the flowers.
‘Do you think this will be okay?’ she asked, adding only family would have seen the original dress.

While people on the first post were supportive, praising her craftsmanship and letting her know the frock definitely should be worn again, people in the wedding shaming group weren’t so nice.
‘It got worse as I scrolled down. The bra showing under the under-dress that doesn’t match. And it’s a bad copy of a dress someone else made,’ one woman said.
‘Does she hate her stepdaughter intentionally, or is she just that out of touch?’ asked another.

A third added: ‘I think it would look better on. On fire.’
Others couldn’t believe how long it took to create the dress.
‘350 HOURS! That is two and a half months at a full time job. Ma’am, your time is worth more than that. People are bonkers,’ said one.
And some couldn’t believe she would wear it to one wedding, let alone dare to put it on for a second.
‘It’s honestly trying to re-dye it and pretend it’s new that’s doing it for me,’ one woman laughed.
Another said it was a ‘terrible idea’ with ‘good execution’.
People who crochet agreed the step mother has talent – as it would be a difficult creation to make.
The woman appeared confident in the dress and held her step-daughter’s hand affectionately in wedding photos.
