More than 2,000 Spaniards die due to high temperatures –
Extreme temperatures, recorded in July in Spain, led to the death of 2,064 people.
According to the website of the Carlos III Institute of Health, among the dead are 1,321 people over the age of 85 and 470 between the ages of 75 and 84. Meanwhile, 176 people were between the ages of 65 and 74 and another 83 were between the ages of 45 and 64. In addition, 10 children under the age of 14 died.
Data from the institute’s daily death monitoring system indicates that deaths from this cause last year, during the same period, were about four times lower.
On July 22, the World Health Organization announced that more than 1,700 people in Spain and Portugal had died from the heat.
Before that, on July 20, it was reported that the heat in Denmark broke the July temperature record, set for 81 years.
