Ministers of Higher Education and Culture discuss joint cooperation in enhancing cultural awareness of university students
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed that building cultural and intellectual awareness for students, and supporting the formation of the student’s personality at all scientific, intellectual and cultural levels, represents a priority for the ministry, noting the focus on strengthening students’ national belonging, and educating them about contemporary national issues.
This came during Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, receiving Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Minister of Culture, in the presence of a group of leaders from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Culture, at the ministry’s headquarters in the administrative capital; To discuss maximizing cooperation between the two sides, and developing an expanded action plan to enhance awareness and culture among university students in various sectors.
The Minister explained that this meeting reflects the Ministry’s interest in expanding its work regarding the human development file through cooperation with partner agencies from the ministries concerned with this file, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, noting that the large attendance of leaders of the two ministries from various sectors reflects the insistence on maximizing joint work in all sectors, achieving integration between efforts, and benefiting from all the capabilities available to both parties in order to reach the building of a capable generation armed with the knowledge and culture necessary to face future challenges, and discussing ways to develop joint work paths for the next stage. Ashour noted the ministry’s participation in national projects to care for the visual identity of cities, pointing out the importance of urban planning as part of the country’s cultural heritage, considering architecture as one of the important arts, noting the need to work to allocate awards in the field of architecture. He pointed out that university students are the true human wealth of this country, and they possess many talents in various fields, which must be exploited, and the volume of distinguished production provided by students in various fields of science, arts and literature, especially graduation projects, must be employed. The Minister explained the role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank in providing a huge amount of scientific resources needed by Egyptian researchers, scientists and decision-makers, encouraging scientific intellectual publishing, and the possibility of cooperation between the bank and the Ministry of Culture.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Hano stressed the Ministry of Culture’s interest in coordinating with Higher Education in the human development file within Egypt’s Vision 2030, noting that the Ministry of Higher Education is a fundamental pillar in the process of shaping awareness, and that universities are the basic building block for talents and human energies needed to build a creative knowledge society, given the importance of the age group to which university youth belong and its danger in shaping their personality and developing their future capabilities. Hano explained the importance of integration between the two ministries to provide a rich cultural environment that stimulates creativity and innovation within universities, stressing the Ministry of Culture’s keenness to cooperate with Higher Education to ignite the spirit of national belonging for youth and enhance their national identity.
He explained that culture is the most powerful weapon to confront the challenges facing youth. The Minister of Culture reviewed the ways in which the Ministry’s affiliated bodies can participate in spreading awareness of cultural heritage within universities, noting the distribution of attention to the different regions and working to spread culture in all governorates and taking into account the cultural dimension of each governorate, and intensifying efforts to discover talents in the regions.
The two ministers discussed several proposals to support cooperation between the two ministries, including cooperation in training human cadres working in cultural bodies through training units in universities, especially in digitization and computer skills, to raise the capabilities of workers in cultural bodies, and the possibility of the contribution of the art academies affiliated with the Ministry of Culture in training students in the field of arts.
The meeting discussed ways to exploit the cultural offices abroad affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education to spread Egyptian culture, enhance the reverse translation movement, and benefit from the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO in enhancing communication with cultural bodies, in addition to integrating cultural heritage into curricula in higher education institutions, and maximizing interest in spreading cultural heritage among university students with its various governmental, private and civil tributaries, and introducing them to the components of identity and the history of their country.
The meeting also discussed developing a new system to discover and sponsor talents in literary fields The meeting stressed cooperation to encourage entrepreneurship, enhance the concepts of innovation and creativity among university students, train on dealing with artificial intelligence and new technology in the field of applications, and benefit from the intellectual material available to the Ministry of Culture to integrate it with new technologies in the curricula. The meeting discussed encouraging the opening of government theaters and art and national museums to students and urging them to visit them, providing discounts to students and faculty members, as well as organizing joint cultural convoys in remote and border areas to educate young people about national issues, instilling a sense of belonging in them, increasing cultural activities directed at students, providing university libraries with books and publications of the Ministry of Culture, and providing outlets for all publications of the Ministry of Culture’s bodies and sectors within universities.
